Design Problem: 90% of the products we buy are packaged using plastic, how can compostable alternatives be used to stop plastic from leaking into our oceans, food supply, and our bodies? Design solution: Yes, you can make products recyclable and reusable but the reality is not everyone recycles or reuses these products. You can’t always control people’s behavior so I wanted to create a product that no matter where it ends up ( landfill, compost, recycle, etc.) it will have the least environmental impact. By creating the packages and products to be 100% biodegradable this is possible.
