Exam project of my bachelor in graphic design and communication. The task was to create my own aid organization that fund the activities, the help by selling and packaging products.
My aid organization Botanica have as main goal to save the rainforests’s medicinal plants. The rainforest is one of the largest pharmacy. Many times one can see the tag naturopathy on certain drugs from the pharmacy, and then you might be thinking that you need something stronger. But what most people don’t know is that more than 40 percent of all medications that we use contain important ingredients from around the world plant kingdom, even those that are prescription. Beyond that, the plants stand model for another 10 percent.
Why should one care about the rain forest plants? The answer is that if you ever had a headache, been sick or had surgery, it may very well be the medications that you have been advised to eat come from plants from there. The plants have consistently been the most important source of medicines in human history. In developing countries, people are directly dependent on the plants they cultivate or collect from the wild. Plants also play an important role in curbing climate, carry up water flow and bind soils. Many plant assets are becoming fewer.
Researchers estimate that at least 34,000 of the more than 250,000 plant species on earth is threatened. It is clear that the medications are now (mostly) can be produced also by chemical means, but the plants we had never been on the recipes. Or, at least it had taken much longer and cost many more lives.
Botanica will sell a kit that allows one to grow their own medicinal herbs at home, seeds to ensure that the plants are grown further and is not threatened and health food products. Botanica is aimed at a young, open-minded audience that has a sense of responsibility and who are or want to be informed about medicinal plants and its effect.
