The structure of this DVD packaging mirrors drawing a sword from a scabbard presenting all the DVDs when opened. The forms on the top associate each movie with one of the Three Sacred Treasure of Japan, and the color blocking simulates the wipe edit which Kurosawa was known to favor. The typeface, Clarendon, was selected to align with time period the films were released.
